The Super Mario Bros. Super Site has now closed.
8/22/2002 - Final Message from the Webmaster/Founder of SMBSS
Perhaps I am overly sentimental or just stunned that this date had to come. Almost three years ago eager to make my mark on the World Wide Web, a young untalented version of myself sat down with a pencil and paper brainstorming ideas and drawing out templates for the what was going to be a website named The Super Mario Bros. Super Site. There are just so many fond memories as I look back thinking about those late nights typing away a Mario game review or trying to figure out how to use Photoshop while making my very first web graphics. I have truly learned so much from SMBSS in what has truly been my absolute favorite project in life.
My little pipe dream in the beginning has truly opened up and flourished as a web site that I am very proud of. Inspired by another site that no longer exists entitled 'The NES Enshrined', I figured if I could bring a unique approach to Mario fans rather than the standard cheats, codes, etc. that plague the net today then I could possibly have a successful web site much like "The Shrine" which had a very nice site devoted to the Nintendo Entertainment System. After SMBSS reached its first 500 hits on its counter I realized that this site was truly going to be worthwhile to stick around unlike a few other web sites I had that would fade as the video game it talked about became old news.
I have gained so much from the super Mario Bros. Super site that saying it was a failure would be utterly foolish. Everything from finding secret talents that I never knew I had to a good friend living more than a thousand miles away SMBSS has just changed my life for the good.
This little essay of memoirs is my last update with SMBSS. Very recently after NulShock's last update a few people have expressed interest in taking over SMBSS. This site could certainly go on for eons as there is always something new to say about The Super Mario Bros. and the fact that Mario is such an enormous classic figure in our society it could never possibly be out of date in the far future. However, this website, its contents, and name are just far to personal to hand off to some stranger to take up an interest in it and for the first time be the sole director of what SMBSS shall look like and what type of content it shall have. NulShock and I have built up some great credibility towards The Super Mario Bros. Super Site that it would just destroy us to see its name and credibility go downhill. This page shall stay on this server until our client shuts us down from lack of updates or just lack of hits to our server space. Fortunately the great people at www.gamezero.com have archived SMBSS for us so you can view The Super Mario Bros. Super Site with its last closing comments and features.
The time has just come to face the facts that I no longer can spend time updating The Super Mario Bros. Super Site and it would be best to close it. Will I be wanting to start it back up and continue on with it in the future? You bet! However, doing so will just be setting myself up for more disappointment when my life takes on even more responsibility as we have seen in the past with the few dry spells SMBSS has gone through. Yes I would love to continue with this site, but no I just don't have the time or energy. As a Computer Animation Major I now have to spend my time working for school finances while thinking up ideas and stories for my demo reel. Who knows you may one day see MY name as a credit on a Mario Bros. Game! Just please trust me and realize that Closing SMBSS is for the best and if we didn't do it a lack of effort as it already has would just show up more and more which would not allow us to live up to being "The Site for the TRUE Mario fan!" ;)
So as I conclude I would like to thank all of you who have made SMBSS such a success. Thank you for all the emails, hate mails, suggestions, fan fiction, fan art, your personal stories of playing your first Super Mario Bros. game. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents that email us every Christmas season asking where they can find "Mario Plush dolls" for their children or grandchildren. Thank you to all of you who wait eagerly for the next update and give us suggestions on how we can make SMBSS a better site for the Mario fan. Most importantly though thank you Seth a.k.a. NulShock for being just a truly amazing co webmaster for SMBSS. I have learned so much about web design from you and appreciate all you have done for the 'Super Site' especially during my absentness. Your funny personality and style shine throughout this site and I am positive you will find your niche with the World Wide Web. Somehow I have the feeling that you are going to end up with a bunch of money and hot girls walking around a big house because of something you thought up! Once again thank you everyone for the great run SMBSS has had. If you asked me if I achieved everything I wanted to with this site the answer is YES! The Super Mario Bros. Super Site will forever be a significant part of me and I am very pleased that SMBSS has truly taken off to be one of the best Mario sites on the Net.
So in the great words of our hero who we just love to idolize........."See You Next time."
Thank you Super Mario Bros. Super Site.....its just been a blast!
